Brantley Gilbert Gears Up for Symphony Show With Fundraiser for Waffle House Shooting Victims

Brantley Gilbert was in Nashville on April 25 to rehearse with the orchestra that will back him during his May 4 show at Ascend Amphitheater, but the day’s focus detoured after a lone gunman opened fire on patrons at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tenn., on April 22, killing four people and injuring several others.

During a media scrum to talk about the upcoming concert, Brantley was joined by James Shaw Jr., the man who disarmed the Waffle House shooter on April 22 and inevitably saved multiple lives.

Brantley has teamed up with the I Believe in Nashville coalition to create the I Believe in Heroism t-shirt, which features an image of James’ bandaged hand that was injured during the shooting. Brantley will be selling the t-shirts at his show at Ascend, with all of the proceeds supporting those affected by the Waffle House shooting.

“We teamed up with I Believe in Nashville and created a new shirt, I Believe in Heroism—it actually has a picture of James Shaw Jr.’s taped-up hand,” said Brantley. “We’ll be selling that shirt at the Ascend show and all the proceeds go to the victims’ families. If any other artists want to get in on it, they can join up and put a banner on their website. It’s definitely something that deserves attention.”

If you can’t get to Brantley’s upcoming show and you want to help, you can purchase the t-shirt online or donate to the GoFundMe page created by James for the families of the victims.
