Little, Jordan Square Off

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The dust has settled at Boise’s Riverside Hotel, after Saturday’s debate between Democrat gubernatorial candidate Paulette Jordan, and her Republican opponent, Brad Little.

When it comes to the two statewide ballot initiatives, Prop 1 to legalize instant horse race betting machines, and Prop 2 to expand Medicaid, both said they’d honor the wishes of voters.

But Little said he supports Prop 1.

“The pari-mutuel industry is a key component of rural Idaho,” said Little.  “It keeps the fairgrounds alive, it’s part of the generation of income and opportunities for our kids’ youth programs.  I’ve long been a proponent of the horse racing industry, and will continue in the future.”

While Jordan says she’s against it.

“So if the will of the people is to pass Prop 1, I will fully support it as governor,” said Jordan.  “However, this initiative is misleading the people.  People think they’re voting for horse racing; it’s already legal, according to our state Constitution.  We’re going to expand casinos in the state of Idaho.”

Meanwhile, Jordan says she supports Prop 2, while Little opposes it.

The two also weighed in on medical marijuana, mental health care, transportation, and other issues.

Be listening to 670 KBOI at 6:45 Monday morning, for a Closer Look into the debate.
